It is one of only two surviving in the country and the only one still in its original position, so a piece of history well worth seeing!
Originally the engine was powered by two steam driven pistons that could reach speeds of up to 30mph, but today the engine is turned by an electrical motor rather than by steam.

The main job of the engine house was operating the engine - without this no coal could be collected at all.
